A few weeks ago, my MacBook Pro started shutting down all by itself when on battery power.... kinda sucks when you're working on something and the system doesn't go through the normal shutdown/save-your-stuff routine when battery power is low.
Well, it dawned on my that my MBP is now officially over 2 years old (first generation) and it probably needed a new battery. Well, at $129 retail, the batteries are quite pricey. The make things worse, my wife's iBook G4 has been sans battery for quite some time as well. Today I broke down and got batteries for both computers. OUCH!
Initially, I was thinking about getting one of the aftermarket ones for about $100 at Fry's Electronics. Unfortunately, my luck with aftermarket products hasn't been all too great, particularly the no-name ones that Fry's was offering. I figured I'd save myself money in the long run by simply buying an Apple battery. I don't know how many times I've "skimped" on something only to be bitten in the end.
Anyways, yay... I'm on battery power again and can be untethered to the power brick.
