Early in the year, Microsoft did a tour promoting Expression Studio. It's basically a suite of tools for Web Design. Of course, it's available only for Windows (luckily, I have one of those).
I was wondering when they were going to send it -- everyone that attended the event was promised a full version of the suite. The box was accompanied by an apology letter by the Expression Product Manager, Jon Byrum.
I've been toying with Expression Web since I got the first non-beta version at the event. Although it's no Dreamweaver, it's a really capable tool that's definitely not to be dismissed. IMHO, the best part of the tool is actually how it handles CSS -- pretty much in every way, shape and form. Most impressive is the implementation of the CSS box model for visually modifying layer padding, margins, etc.
Expression Studio includes:
- Expression Web: HTML/CSS design tool
- Expression Blend: MS' equivalent of Flash, but doesn't generate SWF files. It's tied to their Silverlight initiative. Now that I have the release version of the app, I'll start playing around with it a bit more.
- Expression Media: Previously iView MediaPro (media cataloging application) -- it's awesome on the Mac and don't think it would be any different on the PC.
- Expression Design: Vector editing program that integrates into Expression Blend. I really didn't like the early beta version I played around with. I'll give it ago another time 'round.
Moved my blog over to VOX -- Spaces Live was a bit more sluggish than I would have liked.
